New York Rangers Defenseman Marc Staal – who still remains out indefinitely since taking a slapshot to the face against the Philadelphia Flyers on March 5 – will likely wear a visor when he returns to the lineup, according to his brothers.
Jordan and Eric Staal spoke to NHL.com editor Dave Lozo and gave some insight into the struggles Marc is going through:
“I think he’s been in better spirits as of late because he’s starting to feel a little bit more progress,” Eric said. “I think he was in a lot of pain earlier on and rightfully so. It was good to see him. He was in good spirits. We had some good laughs and enjoyed being around each other last night.”
Most alarmingly though, Eric disclosed that Marc still doesn’t have full vision in his right eye.
Marc was left with a scar above his right eye and didn’t lose any teeth in the process, a positive according to Eric because, “my parents paid a lot for braces.”
On the subject of a visor:
“We asked him — I think he’s going to wear one,” Jordan said. “I think he’s learned his lesson and he’s going to throw one on.”
Jordan and Eric still think that Marc will be able to heal enough to return sometime this season. But hopefully, it should be clear to everyone that the dirty rumor that Marc would return “within two weeks” was just that – an unsubstantiated rumor.
It’s clear he has awhile to go.
